Federal Detention Division
In 2005, Nakamoto developed a division within its company specifically designed to support the corrections and detention industry in the areas of facility quality assurancereviews, onsite compliance monitoring, correctional and medical staffing, and program management services for adult, juvenile and family detention.
The Vice President of this division, Nina F. Dozoretz, is a retired commissioned officer of the United States Public Health Service with years of experience in the Federal Bureau of Prisons and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Her contributions to the correctional industry, through her participation with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC), are widely recognized.
Nakamoto’s Federal Detention Division is supported by a team of IT experts that can customize our web based facility-specific compliance/quality assurance database applications, and data-enabled web sites for agencies and businesses of all sizes. We can assist you throughout the complete life cycle of a project - from requirements and business analysis through design, development, and implementation. Our development team is experienced in using packaged databases as well as customizing databases with software such as Microsoft Access and MS SQL.
Compliance Reviewer Experience
Nakamoto has a variety of highly qualified and professional Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who understand the complexities of correctional and detention facilities and represent an average of 24 years of correctional and medical experience at the federal, state, local, and private corrections levels. We are committed to delivering an honest assessment of a correctional enterprise based on published standards while working in collaboration with various SMEs of the Nakamoto team. The efficiency and effectiveness of a correctional enterprise will be analyzed and evaluated to either establish compliance or assist in the creation of an action plan to obtain compliance. Nakamoto is driven to assist its customers establish and maintain a safe, secure and humane environment for both staff and detainees. Assessment of Needs
An initial review of a facility’s performance is conducted by analyzing historical data, policies, procedures, staffing plans/patterns and emergency plans. Our SMEs then complete the Assessment of Needs based on the client’s self- directed standards or any of the national accrediting agency standards. In order to ensure a facility’s continued success, Nakamoto will assist in the development of a Corrective Action Plan for any areas found to be non-complaint. After Action Reviews
In the event of a catastrophic incident or when an independent review is required, a Nakamoto team of experienced reviewers can quickly be deployed to a facility to complete an after action review. In doing so, they will conduct a root-cause analysis and recommended corrective action to lessen the likelihood of a repeated event.
Management Auditing
Can the performance of the organization or organizational unit be improved? The Nakamoto staff can assess current performances and make recommendations for the changes that can lead to improved productivity and increased quality of work.
Strategic Planning
Does it sometimes seem as if there is time for everything except the most important things? The Nakamoto staff can work with clients and the program leadership to plan for success. We are specialists in helping confirm and articulate a program's mission and goals and then making concrete plans to achieve these goals while work on the rest of the workload is still underway.
Grants Management
Nakamoto staff and consultants have helped Federal agencies manage the grants management process from start to finish, including receiving, logging, and tracking the applications; setting up and hosting meetings; staffing the committees; recording scores; and helping in the notification process. We can help make program guidance more user friendly. We are very experienced in providing technical assistance to the applicant through videos, Web sites, and conferences.
Evaluation
Many government agencies receive earmarked funding for evaluation studies. These funds may be used in a variety of ways: for surveys or analyses, feasibility studies, case studies or conferences, and even technical assistance to grantees under some circumstances. Nakamoto staff can provide the right people, whose unique understanding of the work can provide the quality evaluation results required and supply the evaluation tools needed to evaluate particular programs.
Administrative Support
Nakamoto staff and consultants have written manuals on government travel regulations, provided litigation staff support, conducted management reviews of various kinds, translated Federal regulations and policies into everyday English for different constituencies, arranged family support services for enlisted U.S. Army personnel, prepared congressional reports on government personnel to new locations, and reviewed domestic and overseas programs.
Organizational Structure Effectiveness
Nakamoto staff members have helped clients reorganize to achieve new program objectives. We also are skilled at matrix management and other strategies to enable staffs to achieve multiple objectives, with clear accountability, often obviating the need to reorganize. Nakamoto can help decide whether reorganization is the best way to improve performance or whether new management approaches are a better option.
Training
Nakamoto staff and consultants have specialized in employee training for many years. When the demands of a client's work change, new activities are undertaken, or clients need to provide training for their customers or constituencies, Nakamoto can design the training modules, help select the appropriate venue, secure the appropriate trainers, arrange for travel and meeting service, and conduct the training.
Organizational Development
Nakamoto also can work with a client's staff in team-building exercises to improve staff performance and morale, using only evidence-based techniques, such as the Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory, as the basis of sessions to help employees better understand themselves and others and better appreciate the contributions of others.
